Small Acres is a school for boys who want to build mud cities complete with art studios and airports and for girls who bring their skateboards to school. It is for children who love rope swings and zip wires. It is a place for children who want to make comic books, learn to knit, build a fire. It is a school for children who laugh and prefer running to walking.
More importantly, it is a school for parents who want to give their children the freedom to choose their own direction, learn at their own pace, have a childhood that is full of choice, conversations, time to ask questions about anything, time to read, to play, to laugh and to learn at a very deep level about important things like how to share with friends, how to say no, how to respect all people.
Small Acres is not for everyone. It is not a place to worry about assessments or whether a child at six years of age is preparing for university. It is a place where ideas are important and where there is time to sit in the sunshine and talk with friends. It is a place where children of all ages discuss great ideas, solve problems, make art, learn how to learn and how to care about the world around them. It is a place where children develop a lifelong love of learning and an understanding of the self that leads to work and projects that are meaningful and fulfilling later in life.
