About Small Acres
Small Acres School will be going through huge changes after this school year
(2016-2017). The Peckham Rye Adventure Playground, our home since 2013, is shutting for construction work sometime after July, 2017 and Southwark will not renew the rental agreement with Small Acres. .
The founders and teachers of Small Acres School have decided that this will be the best time for each of us to move on to other projects.
A few of the families associated with the school are looking to carry on in some capacity from September, 2017. Where and how, while not yet clear, will be worked out over the course of this 2016 - 2017 school year. We are a strong community and we will deal with the changes with joy and compassion. While we recognise that change can be difficult, we also welcome the growth that comes with change.
Please note: we are not taking new students at this time.
When a child joins Small Acres, she becomes part of a democratic community. This is an environment in which the children interact freely and pursue their own interests through play and exploration. There is time for relaxed conversations, exploration of the outdoor environment, time to read under a tree, time to develop ideas, freedom to work on projects and build life-long interests and skills. Children have time to become passionate about a subject.
At Small Acres we trust children to be self-motivated and learn at their own pace and in their own way. Our aim is to support them as they become the authors of their own learning and develop their full potential through the pursuit of their own interests and passions.
We encourage children through authentic communication about the world in which they live, helping them develop through the questions they ask and the projects and ideas they develop. At Small Acres, we trust that each child will pursue the activities and skills that will develop their potential as life-long learners.
Small Acres is an independent, alternative, play-based school in South London, where we are creating and working within a democratic community, pursuing a holistic approach to education.
Our amazing location in the Peckham Rye Adventure Playground gives the children the freedom to play and explore outside with access to a large playground, the park, a nearby woodland and ponds.
